Nov. 26, 2006: MIA XDR Site

2006/11/27 23:39
Overcast Ac cloud covered the sky in the morning. Broken Cu and scater As obsereved in the daytime. Moderate shower rain with thunder/lightning were observed at MIA site around 13LT and 15LT

[General Echo Distribution]

06LT: Stationary echo clusters had been observded over the sea 40-80km SW-NW of MIA. They maintained their structure until 10LT there.

10LT: Scattered convective echoes were observed around Maninjau lake and E to SE of MIA. Some of them developed into large clusters by 11LT. Especially, those around Maninjau lake developed much, and then moved SW-ward. It extended it coverage much along the coastline, and then passed over the MIA arouund 15LT.

15LT: It developed much until 17LT at S side of MIA after passig overhead there. And then, it changed into stratiform cluster by 20LT. Moderate shaweor rain of 24mm/hr was recorded at MIA during its passage.

18LT: Major parts of the cluster passed over the coastline and were observed over the sea. New convective echoes developed at the W-tern edge (40-60km W of MIA) of the cluster over the sea. They looked stationary and had strong vertical sind shear; W-ly wind was observed below 3km and E-ly above that.

19LT: Another echo in middle-upper layer clustercame from NE of the range. I.t reached th ecoastline by 21LT, and then gatered with echoes which was originally observed over the sea. They extended its broad stratiform region with time but looked stationary. RHIs of the cluster shoed significant vertical wind shear. Major parts of the cluster moved over the sea by 04LT(+1) and went out from te 80km (160km) range by 05 (09) LT(+1).

Nov. 25. 2006: MIA XDR Site

2006/11/26 23:13
Broken As awas observed in the morning, and it was followed by broken Cu in the daytime. Heavy shower rain of 96mm/hr in maximum was observed at MIA around 1630-1700LT.

[Genral Echo Distributio]

画像07LT: Line shaped echo cluster was observed over the sea from 40km to 160km (over Siberut Island) SW of MIA, which echo moved W-ward slowly. It did not developed much and disapperaed by 13LT around Siberut Island.

08LT: Echoes which was a tail part of the cluster were observed within a range of 80km. Thwy developed and went out of the range by 13LT.

12LT: Many convective echoes were observed around Maninjau lake and SE of MIA. They moved SW-ward and some of them developed into clusters. MIA and Tiku sites were covered by those clustered around 15LT and 16LT, respectvely. Maximmum rain rate of 96mm/hr was recorded at MIA site.

画像20LT: All those clusters moved over the sea with continuous development. Most parts of the clusters were out of 80km range by 23LT. They were observed in the 160km range until next 12LT(+1).

画像23LT: Other echo clusters which had stayed 40-80km from the coastline were observed until next 10LT (+1). Each echo cell looked moving W-ward one after another, but the cluster itself stayed at almost similar position. Its RHI showed outgoing wind above 3km as general wind direction (E-ly) and incoming wind near the surface below it.

2006/11/25 20:55
In the morninig, it was cleare sky with SCT/Cu and SCT/CS. OVC/Cu was obsereved in the daytime, and moderate showers were recorded in the evening at MIA.

[General echo Distribution]

06LT: No significant echo was observed until 11LT both over the land and sea.

11LT: Many convective echoes were observed around E of Maninjau lake and SE of MIA. They moved W-ward with developing into large clusters by 12LT Those around Maninjau lake consisted of major 2 clusters extended W-E; one was located N side and another was located S side of Maninjau lake. They became scattered after 14LT over the adjacent sea.

画像16LT: Similar cycles of echo development were observed at 10-60km SE of MIA. One of them developed into a large cluster, and passed over the MIA site at 1630LT from E to W. It extended broad stratiform region in its E and S side, and then cleared the land region by 19LT. We observed moderate shower at MIA with active thunderstom and lighting.

At the sama time, it leading edge developed much again at NW of Tiku, and the cluster formed an arc shape. Tough the arc cluster went out side of the short range by 23LT, another middle-upper layer cluster came over the site from E one after another until 04LT(+1). Major part of those broad extended cluster moved continuously W-ward, and then faded away from the outer range too by 03LT(+1).

04LT(+1): No significant echo was observed until 08LT(+1) in the next morning.

We found the road was wet in the early morning because of rainfall in the late last night. It was clear blue sky with SCT/Cu and SCT/Ci in the daytime.

[General Echo Distribution]

06LT: Convective echo clusters were observed 40-60km SW of MIA which moved NW-ward. They went out from the 80km range by 08LZ, and then out of 160km range by 11LT. Threre was no significant echo over the land and sea until 13LT.

13LT: Several convective echoes were observed around Maninjau lake and MIA to SE region. Some of them developed a little into clusters which moved NW-ward and disapperared over the adjacent sea one after another until 19LT.

02LT(+1): Several cnvective sechoes were observed over the adjascent sea along the coastline. They moved NW-ward and not developed much in the 80km ragnge, Whereas, those around 100-150km NW-W of MIA developed mcch and lasted until 09LT(+1).

Nov. 19, 2006: MIA XDR Site

2006/11/20 19:35
It was clear cky with SCT/Ac and SCT/Cu in the morning. In the afternoon, we had still some blue sky above the BKN/Cu. Moderate shower was observed in the night (21-23LT) with E-ly gust wind (but less than 10m/s).

[General Echo Distribution]

06LT: Echo cluster extended from off the Tiku beach to N side of Siberut was observed in the long range mode since last night. It weaken and scattered by 08LT, and then disappeared by 10LT. Its tail end had been observed 60-80km NW of MIA by the short range mode. Though the cluster was extended from SE-NW, each echo cell in it lined up perpendiculer to the cluster line aame as those shown in the last night. News echoecells were generated off the Tiku beach, and then moved NW-ward inside of main cluster line.

12LT: Many small echoes were observed around Maninjau lake and SE of MIA. Those around Maninjau lake gatered into a cluster lined up W-E. It moved W-ward and then scattered over the adjacent sea. This similar cycle was repeated again and again until 18LT.
Those echo at SE of MIA moved W-ward withdeveloping into clusters, and then disappeared over the sea one after another.画像

17LT: A broad cluster was observed over the land in long range mode 100km NW of MIA It moved NW-ward along the coastline, and then faded waway from the range by 22LT.

20LT: Several convective echoes were observed around 20-40km E of MIA followed by broad extended middle layer cloud over 60-80km E.

21LT: The echoes developed into a cluster and lined up N-S around 20-40km E of MIA. RHI of radial velocity showed strong E-ly wind up to 20m/s centered at 2-3km high in the cluster. (note: radial velocity was folded at 13.8m/s in the figure)

画像22LT: Broad anvil coud covered the land region after the leading edge of cluster passed overhead of MIA. The convective region of the cluster developed again over the sea at NW side of MIA. Main body of the cluster changed into stratiform one and faded away from the 80km range by 01LT(+1), and then disppeared completely by 04LT(+1). The anvil echo at middle-upper layer disappeared too from 80km range by 06LT(+1).画像

02LT: Several convective echoes were observed 50-60km S of MIA. Some of them gatered into clusters, and moved NW-ward. They developed a little, and then disappeared by 08LT.
